A new congressional bill, HR 6046, or the Military Spouses Equal Treatment Act of 2012 , would change the definition of “spouse” to enable same-sex partners of military personnel and veterans to obtain essential benefits, including insurance, housing allowances and survivor benefits.
Another way for a person to get a free ride,
on the backs of tax payers, which they do not deserve ! ! !
.
Wouldn't your argument apply to ALL military spouses, including the heterosexual ones? I'm sure millions of military spouses would be happy to hear you think they're getting a 'free ride'. Especially when they're taking care of the home and family while their spouse is deployed. What a bunch of freeloaders...
A spouse is a spouse is a spouse. This legislation is long overdue. The U.S. military is not a religious organization and since gays are now allowed to serve openly, military benefits should conform to that reality. Even as far as making that so in every state where members are assigned (which would be all 50) So I don't see this as a states' rights issue at all. I've always believed that pay inequities between single and married members should addressed as well. Any civilian company that paid married members more would be taken to court faster than a fighter jet flies. This is the perfect opportunity to REALLY address military pay issues, IMHO.
Don't you ,eam somene has introdccued a bill which will have a hardtime reachig the floor of the house for actual vote. Its unlke the house will let a bill such as this reach the floor.Thousnad fo such bills are introduced with few going anyhwere.
The courts will have to enforce this unfortunately, if a soldier/airman, sailor will put his life on the line then we should drop all our moral and social taboos and take care of their significant other they have earned it.
Going back to the unmarried and married it's shocking its still allowed. Unmarried people in the military are the most discriminated against group in the military.
Let these civil and personal unions have what is their due. If a couple of hard nose lesbians who are military - who have no one in the world but each other..live together they should have security- to deny these folks benefits when they are a pair is mean spirited- I don't like it, but to do other wise would be wrong. You can't deny people what they deserve just because you don't approve of them- some hate old people and would like to send their expensive dying asses to an early grave- in the name of good economics- but again that would be wrong....
Got a thank you rep from a friend. The best posts you can make are those that come from good judgement- You can not get personal or emotional..You have to look at things from a moral point of view- not a political one....or one that is based in social issues regarding on who we like and don't.
You ask yourself a black and white question with a firm and clear answer- Is this right- or is this wrong..Then let the scale settle where it may.
I might not like illegal swarm like immigration or the breaching of laws- But I will not base my opinion or judgement on and emotion based in spite. For instance are people in general good? YES- to we make way for good people...? Of course..we can adjust the law later...I guess I am learning about and showing grace- Grace defined is the undeserved mercy of God- If God can grant grace to those who he might not approve of - certainly we can also.
