I am going on a trip to Kabul soon, I was wondering if there was anything I could buy and take out there to the US Military members that would make me friends very quickly, and boost morale? V/R
You need to find out exactly what is allowed before you make any big plans to take things. Perhaps sending care packages would be better for your intentions. Have a safe trip.
You might not mean it this way but your posts come across to me as if you want to use gifts as a way to gain trust and buy your way into a group of soldiers. Why are you traveling there and who is sponsoring it and what makes you think you'll have contact with US soldiers? These are just a few of the questions that the OP and follow-up raises for me. Sorry to seem so suspicious but I'd think most soldiers over there also would be concerned with OPSEC/COMSEC, etc. If you already have a connection with a particular US military group over there, the best thing to do is ask them directly.

Sorry if I was not more specific. I am a DoD Contractor and I will be on a temporary assignment to complete a task. I can understand many months away from home can be hard (been there done that). I was just trying to figure out if there were items such as magazines, dvds, music, potato chips, cigarettes, etc that would ease the long term effects of being away from home. We did one assignment and someone brought our team yo-yos. We had a lot of fun.
My take is magazines, paperback books, and any digital copies of movies or tv shows (assuming you're traveling with an external HD). There are enough PXs in the Kabul area to get cigarettes, dip, etc.
DVDs, Cigarettes (nothing like a REAL smoke from the states) , Energy Drinks (Monster!). You'll make some friends doing that. And maybe an external drive full of porn...
If you click on this link, there is a whole big page of things that they need right now, and little extras you could maybe bring them. BOX OF HOME ITEMS...
Also, if you have an APO --you could do this for Iraq, I know for sure, not sure about Afghanistan, but you can get great deals on Amazon of things like big boxes of small packages of chips, crackers, cookies, stuff like that. I did that for my son a few times, it was great!
