It is lovely that the jokester will finally be home with those who loved and missed him. When you look at Pearl Harbor you can never forget that it is the graveyard for so many men.
For Hawaii December 7 is a somber day. My Aunt was a young girl that day and could vividly remember the planes, she later became blind, but that was a sight she would never forget and through her memories I, too remember long after her death.
Whenever a Servicemember can rest at home it is always sad and sweet. I am certain that his spirit sighed when he at last returned home to Oklahoma.
On July 29, 2017 another sailor from the Oklahoma returned home .
This sailor returned to the small central Minnesota town of Holdingford.
Elmer Kerestes was laid to rest in a very impressive ceremony in the rural, small graveyard next to the farm he grew up on and on which his parents donated land for the cemetery.
The Minneapolis TV station that covered it stated the goal of the Navy is to identify ALL the crew members of the Oklahoma.
Simply amazing what forensic science can do now with DNA !

On Dec. 7, 1941, Arickx was assigned to the USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Arickx.
