Got to be able to fit through the round hatches on the ships, sometimes, if you work belowdecks.

Yeah, plus if too many fat sailors were on either port or starboard at the same time the carrier would list...

Those are called scuttles, and while some may work on the flight deck, everyone lives belowdecks.

Even in the 60's we had periodic fitness and agility tests we had to pass.

I can't remember calling them scuttles, actually. I can rememeber having to go through them to down into the pump rooms. Think they were marked WTH--just another "hatch" even though the actual hatches were much larger.

On the carrier, I slept on the 02 level. I didn't really consider the second deck belowdecks, I'm referring to decks five or six. The deeps.

Is that what really happens? At the last minute she can't get on the carrier because they said she's too fat.

Anyone know if this is the truth?

ME

If it isn't it should be .fat folk have a hard time running up the six-seven story ladders(stairs} found on carriers.
And running-jogging is the normal and required pace.

LOL, this reminds me of a story my dad told me. My father retired from the navy. He was a quartermaster on submarines. Anyway he told me the story of the time they went on patrol, stayed 90 days or some long length of time. When they came back to port after their tour was done, one of the guys put on so much weight they had to a door off its hinges and grease him up just to get him out. LOL!!

This was on the SSBN Daniel Webster back in the late 60s. Im guessing things have changed since.
