I know it has the 3rd highest dropout rate in America (Only Detroit and Cleveland's were higher) and some of the lowest reading and math scores in America. But why are the schools worse than Chicago's and New Yorks exactly? Detailed answers are appreciated.

By the way; which of these is the worse HS in the city: Custer, Bay View, Vincent, Pulaski, or South Division

Could you provide your dropout rate source? Also, the student scores as I'd like to see the data myself.

The first link didn't have any comparisons to other cities, the 2nd link had a section that makes it a dubious source,

"Critics have long said that the Manhattan Institute's methodology underestimates the graduation rate nationally, particularly in urban areas and among minority students."

I'm not saying MPS is a great school district overall but I'm curious where you're getting your info.

MPS scores near bottom in national test

this is for the test scores.

This has a list for dropout factories in America; many of Milwaukee schools are on here

schools

Unfortunately; I cannot find the links for it being in the Top 5 in America. but that was as of 2004 or 2005; when district graduation was APPARENTLY only like 46%.

The causes aren't going to be any different than the causes for the 35 or so dropout factories in the City of Chicago school system--or any system with high dropout rates anywhere else.

Much better information here, so with that out of the way you want to know why, right? That's a good question, is it the people or the system?

On the individual school level, why don't you just look at the data for each & compare, won't that tell you what you're looking for?

I think the school one was more of an opinion based on the enviornment (fights, uncaring teachers, etc)

It might be because Milwaukee's school system is poorer than New York or Chicago's. Milwaukee is one of the poorest cities in America, next to Cleveland and Detroit.

it's more of the people. I know there are probably some caring and dedicated teachers and administrators in these schools. but who's fault is it really
