Your car is frozen for 7 months? Why?

I'm obviously exaggerating for a laugh, but have you ever had your tires freeze to the pavement? It happens when you park in a puddle on a day slightly above freezing. Then overnight the temperature drops and that puddle develops an icy death grip on your tire/s. As soon as you go to move the car you run the risk of spinning the rim inside of the tire, dismounting the bead and having a bad day.

Surely I can't be the only one!

Example...

I bought a home in Greendale in 2011 for $132k. Sold that home in 2013 for $140k. Was your basic starter home in a nice area.

In early 2014, I bought a home in an even nicer neighborhood in Vegas for $186k.

My property taxes on a $140k home in Greendale were $4000.
My property taxes on a $186k home in Vegas are $1600.

This means what I pay each month is the same between the two houses except I am living in a home that was built in 2011 and essentially maintenance free instead of a home built in 1938 with original windows and aging materials that were in constant need of replacement.

Southern Nevada and Arizona is loaded with former residents of states like Wisconsin (and Canadians).

You definitely get a break when initially purchasing a home in Milwaukee... But keep in mind that your mortgage will be inflated heavily by the taxes.

So for me, owning a home was basically the same long term cost for the life of a mortgage... But when I'm done with the loan, a home here will likely be worth considerably more in addition to my post-mortgage expenses of owning said home be much cheaper in a low-tax state.

If you are just looking at the up front cost of buying a home, you probably should stick to renting.
It isn't just in AZ and Southern NV. Here in Missouri too! property taxes never go over $1,600-$1,800 anywhere in the state. I know Property taxes are high in other states like Texas, but they can pull it off because overall COL is still lower and they have more diverse jobs. The property taxes in Wisconsin don't justify considering that most of its economy is all blue collar or minimum wage. Yes, sales taxes are low and you don't get taxed on groceries, but it is hardly noticeable and this is coming from someone who worked minimum wage jobs. If you live somewhere sales taxes are high, just either shop online or watch your spending.

Also many people will move to Chicago or a New York taking the same job but with higher pay and not really taking into account of the higher cost of living. Thinking despite the higher cost of living they still would rather have the higher pay.
Hard to point at NYC, CHI, & LA when they are also on this list... I personally left Milwaukee recently and moved to Houston. It wasn't so much a move to run away from Milwaukee, as it was that I was offered a much better paying promotion within my company. With that said the cost of living, & better weather were definitely major draws. There are certainly things I miss about Milwaukee, but the national perception of the city isn't very positive, which I found interesting.

The roads suck . Your ground is shifting via a difficult to detect vain of the coming New Madrid Fault that will breach Lake Michigan near Chicago. The Wisconsin DOT are one big clueless cheese heads . What I don't get is when a new parking lot or a concrete section of highway cracks in hundred of places ( no evidence of heave from frozen water beneath ) that with all the intelligent folks in Wisconsin tap out on common sense and until a quake sucks up Lambeau nobody has any inkling .....is it the water or the beer? I hear the popping from here in NC!!!! Love Milwaukee use to live in Wauwatosa for 12 years.

So yeah, bartenders really need to start doing a better job of cutting people off.
