When my husband was going through the divorce with his ex, that instead of repaying his ex for her entertainment center which during a heated argument, my husband wrecked, he suggested that this entertainment center be paid by three of his horses. Three yrs. later, the ex has not made any attempt to claim the horses, which are still in our property plus my husband has spent about 15,000 for maintenance of the horses. We are no longer in the position of keeping the horses and have thoughts of selling the horses? There has been some suggestion that the best way is to 1) Publish an article in the legal section of a newspaper that the ex has 10 days to claim the horses provided there is a certified check for the amount in payment for maintaining the horses, 2) or the horses goes back automatically to my husband.

Also another suggestion that this case has to go back to court because it was decreed by the judge, plus there a bill of sale made out to the ex.

We actually do ot see a sense of going back to court and spending thousands for lawyers fee when this act of abandonement is clearly justified. Thanks for everyone's help. really appreciate this.

I'm assuming that the ex agreed to accept the horses as payment for the damage done to the entertainment system? If that's not in writing somewhere, I'm pretty sure you don't have a case...
