Apartments in the area include: The Creamette Lofts, Heritage Landing, Riverwalk Townhomes & Flats, 2nd Street Lofts, and St. Anthony Mills Apartments. I am sure there are more but those are some I have noticed around the neighborhood.

Hope this helps.

Chris0214's list is a great start. I should mention that St Anthony Mills is not considered to be part of the warehouse district, as it is too far down river (it's called the Mill district there, but it would suit your purposes as well with regard to light rail access and some night life), but in between that building and the warehouse district, there's also the highrises, the Churchill (111 Marquette), and the Rivergate (115 2nd Ave S), which may be a little more affordable than the loft-type places. (I own a house though and don't pay attention to rent prices anymore.)

The majority of properties along the Warehouse district/Mill district corridor are condos, not apartments, but you might luck out and find a decent condo to rent if you look. Be sure to check Craig's list. Riverwest (401 S 1st St), the Towers (15, 17, and 19 S 1st St), and the Crossings (121 Washington Ave S.) are condo buildings with some smaller units (1 BR and studios), so they would be likely targets to find a condo for rent in your range.

Some other apartments you might consider would include buildings that are more in the heart of downtown. These would only be a few blocks from the LRT station and would have the added convenience of being just a few blocks from Target (at 9th & Nicollet), which would make grocery shopping (and other day-to-day items) real easy., plus all the restaurants, bars theaters etc... within a few blocks.

A few to consider:

The Metro Apartments

Symphony Place | Overview

Marquette Place Apartments

I also second the idea of looking for rentals of condo units, here's one site to look into:

Joe Grunnet - Downtown Minneapolis Lofts and Condos Expert

Good luck with your search!

From the standpoint of getting to work the Warehouse District is probably the best option. The advantage that Uptown has is that the other parts of your life could be easily lived without a car. The Warehouse district does not have a grocery store, Uptown has 3; it also has plenty of other retail, restaurants, bars, parks and beaches within walking distance.
