Nope, the land is in too prime of a location to let it go to park land.

Back in 2003, the City approved a master plan which called for a park at the site of the current Metrodome, in case the stadium was built elsewhere. The plan also called for high-density housing surrounding the park.

Here's a link to the plan. The rendering of a park on the site of the Metrodome is on Page 15:

Only in Minneapolis would people call for a park in place of a venue that generates millions of dollars.
Oh brother Minnesota, we wonder why we keep electing nutzos into office.

Yeah, a park, downtown MPLS... lol

I didn't think the area around the metrodome was really booming from the business that the metrodome brings in.

I just hate big parks. My favorite parks I've spent time in have been the 1-square block Plazas Des Armas in Latin America.

Same in NYC, I ignore Central Park and hunt down the smaller, more human-scale parks elsewhere.

No matter where I've been in the world, I never feel comfortable in a big park, whether it be the Bois in Paris or Hyde Park in London or wherever.

Block E on Hennepin would have made a nice central park. Loring is too far away and in great need of furthur high density housing. Wall it in, all three sides. 4th side too?

If the Metrodome goes away I would agree with those that say the land is too valuable as a commercial property. We need more jobs, not more green space. That piece of property is on the LRT line and has great access to highways so I would think there would be quite a bit of value there for some corporate entity.

Also, there's lots of great green space just over from there along the picturesque river by the Guthrie.

Central parks in cities are ideal gathering places for communities. It is a big part of what makes cities in Latin American countries so much more intimate and friendly than U.S. cities as you won't find a single large city or town that doesn't have a sócalo and plaza/park area. It's a cool idea but unfortunately I don't think it would have the same effect here. The majority of the Twin Cities metro area is made up of suburbs where people prefer to spend time by themselves in their own mini-park (AKA - their back yard). New York is so dense with the vast majority of people living in condos and apartments so park space is much more valued there than it is here. Hence the Central Park works really well there. Just my 2 cents.

I'm happy with the existing downtown parkland - Loring Park, the Walker, the riverfront. Another park at the Dome site seems unnecessarily extravagant.
