i got a new job and on tuesday ill start at 6. this is great change for me because last job i had to drive to minnetonka from lakeville at 830 in rush hour every morning. took almost 1hr 15 min-1hr 30 min sometimes.

this new job is right off hennepin. straight shot 35 north from lakeville to hennepin. i havent driven 35 north downtown that early so im unaware if itll be busy at that time. will leave roughly, 5:20-5:25.

thanks

Highly unlikely you will run into any traffic barring any major overnight construction or a heavy snowfall at that time.

In my experiences traffic doesn't picks up in most areas until around 6:45am. Traffic from 5:20 - 6:00 should be pretty light across the metro area barring any major construction/accidents/weather issues.

Driving 35W to work at that time should not be much of an issue. However, when I comuted that direction, 35W south tended to start slowing down earlier than one would expect in the afternoon. The crosstown weave modification may now have eased this now, but I recall the rush hour jam would start soon after 3 pm most days. If you are on the freeway before than it shouldn't be an issue.

I used to commute from south of Lakeville up I-35/I-35W to arrive at work at St. Anthony at around 6:45. The only issue ever, in five years, was snowfall. But it doesn't take much snow to make everyone go considerably slower. Even if it is no longer snowing, if mere wisps of snow are blowing across the road someone in the left lane in a 4WD Explorer (or the like) will insist on doing 48.2 mph, and will justify it because the flow of traffic in the right lane is slower -- at 47.9 mph. I now commute much of the same route, but at Hwy 62 I head west. The same still stands, however.

But if you're starting at 6am, if should take significant snow to slow you down much. Even construction shouldn't affect the very light traffic at those hours. And overnight/weekend closures (for example, to take down an overpass) are always scheduled to be lifted at 5am and are rarely delayed.

You should be fine.

I start my job at 6:30 in the morning in downtown Mpls, coming I-35N. You're only going to have traffic problems if there's snowfall. Even it it's a tiny bit of snowfall there may be a problem.

If any of the "weather terrorists" (as KFAN's Dan Barreiro calls them) say "allow a few extra minutes for your commute" it just might mean a lot slower drivers out there. Seems anytime they forcast even an inch of snow, people get up that much earlier and drive much slower.

That time of day, you should have no problem going where you like without traffic jams.

If you're working downtown, take the bus. From Lakeville you can get an Express Bus to downtown Minneapolis from the I-35 Park & Ride. Taking the bus is cheaper (parking is pretty expensive downtown) and it's much nicer, especially in bad weather.

You will run into traffic in the Twin Cities, anywhere, anytime. Traffic here sucks.
