Having just completed a bio of a famous architect, he referred to architecture as the 2nd oldest profession. Now that's one loaded statement!

I'm surprised that the OP even has a job at all, given how overbuilt Miami became during the boom years, as well as here in Las Vegas, where the architecture firms that are barely keeping alive, have turned to seeking contracts in Asia.

It may be many years before a construction crane is seen in either city.

In Minneapolis, there could be more hope there for future construction, if you could somehow circumvent those nasty, selfish NIMBY's who will always make the final decision, what will or won't get built, where and when.

I don't know about regular architects. My uncle was one in Iowa and always worked (retired a year ago)

My brother in law is a landscape architect by trade. However he has had very limited jobs for short periods only. He stays home with the kids mostly.

MN seems to be a good market but I don't think you can generalize that to every profession. I'd recommend maybe taking a leave for a month and coming to see?

Most of my work revolves around international projects, but surprisingly enough, the cranes are starting to rise again in Miami and the 23,000 high-rise condos constructed during the past boom are at 85% occupancy. Once you get beyond the urban core is when things start looking pretty futile.

While researching place to move, I discovered that Minneapolis has a surprisingly (for me) large quantity of international architecture firms as well as major corporations based in the region. The hardest part right now is getting a firm to look at my resume when my address lists Miami as place of residence.
