The Eagle Ridge upper campus is in Eden Prairie...the elementary school is currently in Edina (temp location). I know a few people who send their kids there and they are quite happy with it...or, at least, are always trying to convince other people to go there too.

I personally think of all the areas you've mentioned (Shakopee, Savage, Chanhassen, Prior Lake) as being pretty much indistinguishable from one another. I admit I haven't spent a lot of time in any one of them, but they all seem to be farm land with mundane new housing developments. The Shakopee/Schaumburg analogy seems fair.

I'd agree with a previous recommendation to live somewhere closer to the cities and commute out to Shakopee...but, of course, it depends what you are looking for in a home & neighborhood.

I live in Lakeville and would recommend it over Shakopee. I haven't lived in Shakopee, but it just feels more small town/depressed than Lakeville. Granted there are large entertainment venues in Shakopee, but unless you are planning on going to the casino or the amusement park every weekend, I'm not sure how big a selling point that is. I don't know anything about Shakopee's schools, but the Lakeville school system is pretty well regarded in the south-of-the-river suburbs. Another thought is that other than 169, there aren't many easy ways to get in and out of Shakopee.

Lakeville seems more small town than Shakopee to me. In fact, what is there to do in Lakeville that makes it feel "big" to you? All I see is houses and big box retail.

Try driving through downtown Lakeville once and see. Shakopee is a lot of houses and big box stores too, if you drive in the right area. So is Minneapolis, for that matter, if you drive in the right area.

Lakeville has a very cute, very active downtown right in the middle of Lakeville on Highview/Holyoke.

Well said. Shakopee's fine for suburban living, it's just that there are better options if that's what you're looking for, Lakeville being one of many. Besides, who wants to live in a weekend destination city??? You have to deal with unwanted traffic from out-of-towners.

What a MINOR problem it is in either city! Considering you live in a metro with the 14th worst traffic congestion (depending on which poll you use), Shakopee and Lakeville are a cakewalk compared to Edina, St. Louis Park, Richfield and Bloomington!
