Yeah ... I have a brother who lives on Lynwood in St. Paul and I hadn't had my morning caffeine yet.

As for the Cardinal: never been there, just heard good things about it. I'd take others suggestions over mine.

Don't stay out late in Uptown. Its usually pretty safe but 3 or 4 goons working in a group have been beating/robbing people late at night (past midnight) and the beatings have been pretty severe. They'll get caught eventually, but it seems as if every year or two something like this happens in either Uptown or around the U of M and its always just a couple of individuals.

While I think it's good advice to never be out late at night by yourself, I think that by the end of August, these people will be caught. I think Uptown really should be experienced at night as that's when it really comes alive. But if possible, stay in a group or near other people walking on the street.

Coppers announced today that they had arrested a suspect in the first (?) attack in Uptown.

Glad they're finally catching some people. Now if only they could get the rest.

For crimes like this, I'd really like to see some long-term jail time. Creeps like this who make an area feel less safe don't deserve any sympathy.

Hi Liam

Hope you gonna enjoy your stay in the area come August. The Mall of America is a DEFINATE MUST SEE ! Even if just to see what capatalism can do! Ok thats said for those who might not like the place. I personally LOVE it ! Easy to get lost in it though with 4 levels and over 500 Stores. Speaking of getting lost in the Mall if you are into technology you might want to try out the following;

If you have an i-Phone you can download for FREE from www.fastmall.com a mobile phone app which helps you find your way around the Mall of America. Has all sorts of cool features too.

Coming from the UK you might not have an i_Phone. Nokia's are more popular in the UK. If you have a Nokia Smartphone then there's also an app for Nokia also FREE at

Ovi Store

REALLY COOL ! Like indoor GPS!

Does anybody else get lost in that place ? Cause I SURE do !

Skip hotels/hostels altogether, rent a room from a private landlord instead. A typical rent averages between $20 and 40 per night, but you get more amenities for less compared to any hotel. Here's a good site to start: Airbnb Search
