Not to get crazy here, but I'm 100% positive that its a bit more frequent than you think. I doubt my friend getting held up at gunpoint is a freak/isolated incident.

It always seemed to me that the crowds around uptown were the harmless artsy/college kid type. Then again, you do have a bit of a rough area about a mile east of Calhoun, and its not that long of a walk/bus ride from LynLake/Riverside for a vagrant to jack a couple of tourists for their wallets/phones.

Like I said, I doubt there would be any problems during the day, but I wouldn't take a night-time stroll in the area. Neat area, but not particularly safe.

Firing Glen Mason was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen in major college football. I knew the Gophers were screwed as soon as that happened.

This is both idiotic and pointless.

I wasn't suggesting that Uptown has NO crime, but it's by no means an area to be avoided after dark. If you get into that mindset, might as well just sit in the hotel room for dinner, as you might get hit by a car on the drive or be mugged in the Mall of America parking lot(but even then, what if you food poisoning or there's a hotel fire?). There are always a ton of people out for evening runs, lots of twilight dog strolls, etc. I don't imagine that the average person will be wandering around at 3 am (and right after bars close I'd be more worried about drunks on the street than I would robbers), but by no stretch of the imagination is Uptown (or ECCO, East Isles, or Kenwood) destinations that most people consider to be only safe during daytime hours.

And I'm 100% positive it is a freak/isolated incident. Isn't the internet grand?

Did you just refer to LynLake as "a bit of a rough area"?

lol

Haven't been to TCF yet but I have a couple friends with season tix. They like it, but the tailgating is pretty weak. They priced it so only the rich can afford to tailgate.

Harriet is a nice lake to stroll around, Calhoun has best view of downtown.

If that's true I guess they get what they deserve. Feel bad for the rest of the fans, though.

The idea to move the football team back on campus was reportedly to embrace the campus atmosphere. However what they failed to tell us was that the environment they wanted was more like the library and not a frat party.

Makes no sense. Gopher fans are being robbed of the true Big Ten game day experience.

Michigan has some noon kickoffs during the season, and although its not ideal, my butt is planted in a lawn chair with beer in hand by 8 a.m. outside the Big House when that's the case, and there are legions of others that are doing the same. If it kicked off at 11, we'd be there at 7.

Not trying to compare Minnesota football to Michigan, because the Michigan experience is obviously on a level of its own, but that's what Minnesota should be shooting for, epsecially with that gem of a new stadium.

I wonder how it was back in the day before the Metrodome? Did they have a campus stadium then, and if so, what was the pre game atmosphere for that?
