You have all been so helpful....I am hoping you can help again!
We just learned that my husband has to be in EP Wednesday....he can stay for a few days in a hotel but we would like to join him asap and will need a short term furnished rental house.
Does anyone have suggestions of where to begin?

I say house because with the # of children we have ..... well we wouldn't last long in an apartment or townhouse with neighbors on the other side of a wall....we can get....a little loud

Thank you!

Finding a furnished rental house is going to be difficult, especially in Eden Prairie. I think the best way to approach this is once he moves up here to start looking in the local free papers and then get some furnishings from a consignment shop or Goodwill or even buy new at Slumberland or some place cheep like that. Have him email his new coworkers to see if they know of anyone that is either selling a house or has some rental properties that might work for you.

Another thing, is his company paying for the relocation? Since they want him there so fast, they should pay for a hotel or rental home until you can move your entire family. If they don't, keep all of your receipts for lodging, travel, food, phone calls home if they are long distance, etc. as they are deductible on your taxes if you are moving more than 90 miles (I think that is the distance) from your current home.

Check out websites like vrbo.com and airbnb.com. You can probably find something to meet your needs on there. We found a nice furnished temporary place for our family when we were relocating and needed somewhere to stay while looking for a more permanent home. You may have to be a bit flexible on location -- it's all private homes, so it depends on who is renting, so you may have to go with something near, but not in, Eden Prairie -- but it's a lot nicer than a hotel room.

It doesn't have to be in EP at all. Even within 30 minutes would be fine really. They will be paying for most of it thankfully!! We have some extras around here that we thought we could take up on a uhaul and still leave our house looking nice to show (trying to sell!) but hadn't thought about craigslist, etc up that way for the things we cant bring up.
Thanks for the advice and the links! I will start looking them over.

I just did a (really brief) look on airbnb, and there are places like this one: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/213083 that would put you well within 30 minutes of EP. At $1400/wk it's not cheap, but if you have a large family it's cheaper (and much nicer) than a couple of hotel rooms. If you poke around there are probably smaller or cheaper places available, too. (we rented a 1-BR with a couch bed, as we were paying for it ourselves).

Try the property management companies that you find on Craigslist. Also look at relocation specialists or oddly enough moving companies -they can often connect you with furnished short term rentals.

Here are some options--not sure of your budget but my guess is they would be willing to work with you if you are going to stay for a few months or more:

Apple Valley Vacation Rental - VRBO 446510 - 3 BR Metro House in MN, Large Lakefront Home Near Twin Cities

Lakeville Vacation Rental - VRBO 400736 - 4 BR Metro House in MN, Twin Cities Retreat - Scrapbooking, Crafting, Reunions
this one doesn't list a monthly rate but it wouldn't hurt to call

Most of the rest are either really, really expensive or condos/loft type places or too far away.
