We are considering this apartment building. I want to know below questions:
1. Is this area safe?
2. Is it a kids friendly area?
3. If you lived there before or your friend has experience, what is your comment?
4. Any good preschool nearby there?

By the way, I am new to Minneapolis, also new to US
Apologize for my poor english

I've never lived in the Solhem, but am quite familiar with the area and have friends who live a few blocks away.
1. I think Solhem's Uptown location is quite safe. You're only a block away from Hennepin and Lake and the area bustles with activity day and night. There is occasional crimefrom car breakins and noise from some folks who have partied excessively at a nearby bar, but on the whole its a very nice place to live.
2. Uptown is not a big neighborhood for kids, but there certainly are kids in the area. i know families who live nearby and they like the areas walkability and easy access to the lakes for biking and roller blading. There's a kids playground on the east shore of Lake Calhoun around 33rd Street, which is a focal point for parents with little kids in the neighborhood.
3. We lived inLinden Hills, which is one of the most family friendly neighborhoods in the twin cities, but is also very expensive. The east calhoun area shares much incommon with Linden Hills regarding the walkability, access to lakes and bike trails, interesting nearby businesses. The location you are referencing is a more commercial area, but the east calhoun area is considerably quieter a block or two of 31st Street. Much of your experience in living in the area will depend on what your interests are. If you want a quiet neighborhood, Uptown is probably not for you. But, if you like an area where you can go to the corner and hop a bus with a minimal wait, walk less than a block to a grocery store, have dozens of restaurants within a few blocks, walk a few blocks to the Refrectory at Lake Calhoun for ice cream, then I think you'd enjoy it.
4. preschools: We sent our younger son to Grace Preschool at 28th Street and Humboldt and we were very happy with it. Now, that was 12 years ago, but i think it deserves consideration.
