Last Saturday wasn't Halloween. That's your first mistake.

Bear in mind that the zoo is a non-profit. I'm sure they need every penny they get just to stay open and clean and comfortable for visitors in addition to properly caring for the animals and providing educational programming. That's why they have special events like this one for Halloween - to entice people to come to the zoo. They really shouldn't have to give out anything at all to the kids, except maybe refreshments. If you want your kids to have candy, send them to the mall. If you want your kids to have fun, learn a little, and support the zoo, go to the zoo.

When our kids were little and we went to Zoo Boo, the volunteers at the zoo were the ones that were handing out candy that they purchased and brought in. Not sure if Como does this still but that is how it used to be way back when.

We've done Zoo Boo several times and it was fun for the kids, not many treats but they had snacks and juice along the way with tons of dressed up characters.
All of the donations come from corporate sponsers, mini boxes of cereal, chips and pretzels, fruit roll ups, crayons, coupons, juice etc.

A BAND-AID FOR HALLOWEEN?? are u serious? i was so disappointed.
Was it the brand Band-Aid, or just a generic adhesive strip?

This was one event in your area. I'm sure if you look online or check local paper you will find many more events for Halloween throughout the community and beyond. Not all events provide candy and some will, but Halloween is Thursday night and your kids will get plenty of candy trick or treating, plus most churches or schools may have the trunk or treat in the parking lots. Just enjoy each event as it is for what it is and offers and have a variety. This whole week is filled with events.
