Default schools

Are you wondering about magnet schools or charter schools? There is a difference. I know the charter schools quite well and could possibly offer some advice if you gave me a specific area.

magnet schools get federal money for transportation, Charter schools do not. Students going to Magnet schools can travel quite a distance by bus to their school, many are out of the district they reside in.

I guess this is on topic. My daughter got into Weaver Lake Math and Science school this year starting second grade via a lottery. Interestingly and concerning is this school is rated 5 out of 10 while the school she left (Fernbrook) go a 9 out of 10 rating.

Magnet schools were supposed to help to desegregate schools. I don't see where this is doing that. I am waiting to get a report on how many minorities are using this. There is an awful lot of money being spent here and it is for transportation.

I am curious about Monroe Elementary in Brooklyn Park that specializes in Math, Science and Engineering. I have three children and I am considering applying to this school. Is anyone familiar with this school that wouldn't mind sharing their thoughts?

We have our daughter open enrolled at Monroe. She is in her second year there and it has been a good experience. My husband and I are very involved in the school and no matter what I recommend that parents stay active in their children school.
