Can we start a thread dedicated to all things East Side?

Anyone here from the East Side of St. Paul?

I'm not from the East Side, but live in St Paul & am really liking what I see happening in Dayton's Bluff & along Payne Ave.

I think Dayton's Bluff is the next hot neighborhood in St Paul. The Victorian housing stock is fantastic. The proximity to Downtown is awesome. Being just across the bridge from Lowertown should add to it's desirability now that Union Depot/Green Line are close by, as well as the new Saints ballpark. Easy access to 94. Metro St University is really doing well & in the process of building three new buildings. The new(er?) Library is also a nice amenity. 'The Strip Club' established a cool place in the neighborhood to go after dark. Swede Hollow Cafe is a nice neighborhood place. The city invested quite a bit of money buying ramshackle foreclosures & doing a tasteful job of renovating them to modern standards, while keeping the historic charm. Mississippi Market going in on the vacant block on E 7th just behind Metro St will be a really big deal for the neighborhood. A co-op, organic/whole foods, kind of place opening up is like gentrification NASA landing in the neighborhood & planting a flag.

There's been a rash of shooting on Payne in the last several days. Feel Sorry for 'Cook' and 'Ward 6' - two new restaurants on Payne that are getting rave reviews that are dealing with East Side Boyz trash.

I love the East Side. My parents grew up there, my grandparents lived on Pacific until the day they died.

I grew up on the upper East Side (Hillcrest neighborhood)...and drive thru, still, every day on my way to work in DT STP. I love the hard work and clean up going into all the neighborhoods. So nice to see some revitalization.

When I was looking recently, Daytons Bluff was an area that I was interested in. There is a lot of work to do, but if the economy stays good, its a decent bet.

fyi...i have moved into transitional areas in Chicago and Houston. Turned into good appreciation.

i will add, id be more interested in townhome/condo development. Which goes against what the Victorian style folks want.

But some 200k 2 be units are better entry points for young professionals than a sfh.

Is the 700 block of Sherwood Ave considered east St. Paul? What is the neighborhood like?

I still don't know how to look up 100 numbers of East Side blocks on a map. I asked on a Facebook post and no one responded. Can someone tell me how I do this? I'd like to know what 100 block mine is to see on crime blotters and stuff.

My best friend grew up on Sherwood just off Arcade. Nice little block but had a rash of break ins last Summer.

I find the best way is to look it up in Google Maps or a similar program -- type it "700 Sherwood Avenue," for example, and Google Maps shows it as the intersection of Sherwood and Greenbrier.
