i need ball joints done and a wheel alignment. prices are way cheaper at auto zone. Does anyone know a shop that will let me bring in my own parts and not throw a hissy fit? i know most times they wont warranty the parts but i really need my car to get to work.

This. Also try Honest 1 Auto next to the McDonalds off of York, near Southdale.

Never used them as their quotes always came in much higher for me than Precision Tune. YMMV.

I used to go Edina Tire but started going across the street when I realized I was being over-charged. Otherwise, they were good.

I think it is safe to assume that all shops buy their parts below what Autozone charges their customers. Shops charge more because they have to make a profit. When I was a 16 and brought my brake pads into Goodyear, they said they would not install my pads. I explained that theirs pads are triple the price that I paid. His only response was: "Do you bring your own steak to a restaurant?" The light bulb went off.

With that said, shops have to make their profit someway or they will be out of business. The cheapest guy always gives something up (quality or service). It's the law of business. Price, quality, service. Pick 2 of the 3. Some only deliver 1 of the 3. Anyone who delivers all three (price quality AND service) will eventually be out of business.
