Hi,

What would you recommend a solo traveler with no car do and stay at in Minneapolis? The traveler in question is a male in his late twenties.

What sort of activities appeal to you? I would give very different recommendations to a theatre buff than I would to a sports nut, for example.

We live in Chicago which has some of the best theater and sports in the US. We want to see what Minneapolis has to offer.

Mall of America is on the list. We will be visiting at different times though, so we won't be traveling together.

With all due respect, I don't get the appeal of the MOA; it's a mall-- yes, a VERY big one, but a mall nonetheless-- while there's more stores there, it's not as though the Nordstrom's or GAP in the MOA is any different than a Nordstrom's or GAP anywhere else in the country. :shrugs:

I'm not the best person to advise you, as I'm a fairly recent transplant (and suburbanite), but I'd suggest, at a minimum, to check out the chain of lakes, walking trails, Stone Arch bridge, local restaurants, and perhaps a Golden Gophers hockey game.

MOA may be a disappointment, although lots of people do love it, so maybe not. It's a big mall with a lot of stores, most of them chains that are also found in other cities across the country.

Theater, on the other hand, is different here than in Chicago (other than traveling shows), so I don't think it makes sense to say that one automatically doesn't want to see theater here because there are theaters in Chicago, but could be that the OP just isn't into theater or sports or doesn't feel like doing those things while on vacation, which is perfectly valid. But if they do like theater, this is a city with a lot to offer.

I'd go with options like the Mill City Museum, the Stone Arch Bridge, Minnehaha Falls, and Lake Calhoun or Lake of the Isles. And walking around downtown on a weekday is interesting, especially if up on the skyway level, as our skyway system is so extensive. While downtown, there are plenty of other options, too - visit the outdoors observation deck at the Foshay Tower, is always nice, even in winter.
