Hello,

After 24 years of living in New Mexico my husband and I are ready to move out !!! We live in a small town where we literally have nothing . This is mainly an oilfield town and there is nothing for us here anymore. We are tired of the dry heat !!! We are ready for colder weather . My husband and I have both done lots of research of Minnestota and felt it was the perfect place for us and our family. Its absolutely beautiful in tbe spring and summer and yes I know yall have extremely cold winters but were ready for that.
Were looking for a good area for a family we have a 2 year old son. Im looking into going to the Aveda Cosmetology Institute up there. Also my husband is a photographer and artist if anyone knows any good jobs involving art that might be good . Just any tips or advice before we head up there would be greatly appreciated !!!

Couldn't be more different here. The state is basically drenched in water 24/7, everything is green and lawns are watered indiscriminately. If you are artistic folks, stick to the Cities. With the beauty industry you will have to wirknhard to build a clientelle, but I would look at the higher end suburbs like Edina fir example.

Northeast Minneapolis sounds like a great place for you. It's where Aveda is located, and is a hip, artsy area.

Minneapolis has been turned into a homogenized "anywhere usa" city at this point. The friendly, cheap, interesting, alternative Minneapolis referenced was alive up until about 5 years ago. Go there if you want road rage, vanity, cultural appropriation, rising cost of living, condos etc.

I remember people from the '80s Minneapolis saying the same thing in the '90s. People were complaining that $350 a month was an astronomical rent for a 1 BR and a rip off. The interesting, alternative Minneapolis survived and thrived then and it will continue to now. Stuff moves around, it ebbs and flows and the muses change but as long as Minneapolis is cold in the winter its creative community will never be priced out the way they have in San Francisco or Seattle.
