For those of you who are native southerners or from warmer climates that moved to Minneapolis. What was the toughest things to adjust too after moving to the Minnesota area? I really prefer colder weather to the southern heat. You can dress for the cold, the same can't be said for unrelenting heat. However, when I see that Minneapolis can be -10 below for an entire week. That type of cold worries me. When it's 25 degrees in the South I start shaking. If I get a job offer, I imagine my first purchase would have to be some electric blankets.

Your replies don't have to exclusively be about the cold. Driving in -10 below weather concerns me too. Thanks...

Yea Minnesota can get cold at times in the winter, but it usually isnt so cold that its unbearable with a jacketon even. There a couple of days every winter where its real nasty, and you simply just dont go outside that much. You can still be in heated houses, and stores, and cars. You trade some uncomfortable heat, for some uncomfortable cold. Besides that, i think Minnesota is nice most of the time, you get the change in seasons, and the summers are nice.

When it is 25° in the south, what are you wearing? Do you have central heat in your home? Yes, it is cold and many people prefer not to wonder out but it is for a day or two unlike the weeks on end of 100+ temps in Texas.

Basically you throw on an extra layer of clothing, wear gloves and a hat and do whatever. You would be surprised at how fast you can warm up in -10° temps cross country skiing or even just walking.

It's cold for March today, but we are going to be in the 40's by the end of the weekend. You will be surprised at how warm 40° can feel in March.

As for driving in the cold, you just turn the heater on in the car.

Grew up in Iowa which isn't as cold as Minnesota...you are going to freeze. They are very liberal compared to the south.
