The downside for you would be there there aren't many condos or apartments in this area as it's mostly single family homes.

What is your approximate budget for housing. Many of the areas suggested are great locations, but also among the most expensive in the Twin Cities. Condo prices would be upwards of $300,000, and rents for a one bedroom apartment would be in the $1,500 and up range. My rent for a 2 bedroom apt. in Uptown was $2,300.

$2300 is a bit steep. Ultimately, I would like to purchase a single-family home, but I think renting in a multi-residential space the first year is ideal for several reasons: 1. Hopefully it will help me meet other people and while I enjoy people of all ages, I would like to make some friends my own age 2. I am completely ignorant about how to live in snow and I'd like my first winter to be memorable for all the right reasons I would like to stay around $1750 and certainly not exceed $2K.

I am coming up for five days the end of this week. I am excited to explore!

Do you mind if I ask you a couple of additional questions?

1. Where did you "move back" from?
2. Since you decided to move back, I assume you think this is a good area for folks are age?
3. Do you have any trouble making friends in our age range?
4. Do you work in Minneapolis-Saint Paul?

Thanks MSWheel.

I lived in rural MN for the past 10 years and ended up needing to work in the Cities. Spent a few months in Bloomington and really enjoyed the area I was located in. I was in walking distance of about everything I needed and the building had an underground parking garage which was really convenient. Genesee I recommend them and that area of the Cities.

Okay folks, thanks for all the advice. Uptown is a blast, but a little too much for 24/7, I think. Lake Calhoun is great, but a bit out of budget. I decided on St. Louis Park -- fell in love with the walkability -- and, who doesn't love Trader Joe's? As of August 26, 2017, I will be a Minnesotan, don'tcha know??!! I can't wait!!

Congratulations on making a good choice of the area - sounds like a Goldilocks option to me, not too far from the core cities, not too close and "urban".

St. Louis Park is a very nice choice. Snuggled between Hopkins (like a Midwest small town in the suburbs) and Uptown Minneapolis. Lake Minnetonka is not too far away either. If you are into bicycling, a very nice choice as well. I hope you are able to take advantage of the many wonderful bike paths in the area!
