So, if you're a single professional who was born at the end of the baby boomer generation, where is the best place to live in MSP? I would like to be in an area where I can meet a lot of people, a high walking score would be nice. I would prefer a condo or loft (reasonably affordable) since I'm coming from the land of no snow

I read and hear that uptown is very nice, but it doesn't sound like my demographic. I like to be active, walk, bike, ski, so I'd like to be close to some of the great parks the Twin Cities are known for.

Some helpful advice and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The 50th and France area might be good.

Summit Ave area in St. Paul? I recommended this area to 2 expat European colleagues in their 30s and 40s relocating here, they seem happy with the walkability and "vibe" of the area.

North Loop should tick off most of your boxes. I've lived here now for going on 12 years. It's a neighborhood that, 30 years ago, was derelict but over the past 15 years or so, went through old warehouses being converted into condos and new condo buildings built that blend beautifully into the historic character of the neighborhood. Many great restaurants, Target Field, great transit access and right along the Mississippi River. Mostly younger and middle age professionals, with a good mix of both straight and gay. It is somewhat more expensive, so you'll have to decide if it's within your budget but is definitely an area you should check out.

50th and France is great, but expensive.

I would also suggest the new condos in highland Park, which is a great area (Cleveland and Ford Pkwy in st Paul), and I'll even throw in an inexpensive option as a wild card....the wood lake area of Richfield. But really do checkout highland park

I agree with most of the locations suggested here. I'm a 61 year old single male, and lived in Uptown when I first moved back here last summer. It was very convenient and walkable, but I wound up buying a house in South Minneapolis near Lake Nokomis and am very happy there. The downside for you would be there there aren't many condos or apartments in this area as it's mostly single family homes.

What is your approximate budget for housing. Many of the areas suggested are great locations, but also among the most expensive in the Twin Cities. Condo prices would be upwards of $300,000, and rents for a one bedroom apartment would be in the $1,500 and up range. My rent for a 2 bedroom apt. in Uptown was $2,300.

Thank you! I have been reading some alarming reports about an area called, Nicollet Park. These articles describe this area s dangerous with a high violent-crime rate. What is your opinion on the area? It is not necessarily an area that I would want to move to, but is it an area that I should avoid as I venture out to see the area?

Thank you City Kid! I am heading up this week and I will certainly visit them both.
