Nothing really scheduled for that date besides a Broadway show: Come from Away. How appropriate.

I have re-read my initial reaction to the "stay away from the public transit" comment and the "uptick in crime".

This has far too many variables to tell a visitor to stay away. Such as:

- what type of crime?
- when is the crime occurring?
- how does one define "uptick"?
- how does that relate to overall ridership?
- where is the crime happening?
- who are the victims of previously undefined crimes?

Much goes into this.

In 2007 I went to Philly and I believe it was this very website where users told me to avoid using the SEPTA (SE PA Transportation Authority) for transportation. I was told it was dirty (it kind of was) and very risky to ride and I should avoid at all costs. I used SEPTA many times during that 5 day trip and encountered NOTHING close to crime.

I will say this - It made me very apprehensive and frankly, scared to go to Philly -- it ended up being an amazing trip

Here's the thing: most people don't understand statistics, period.

They see stories on the news and cannot for the life of them contextualize those accounts. A regional airliner goes down in Akron and suddenly they're terrified to take a wide-body from New York to Los Angeles. A city that had one murder last year has two this year; homicide doubles! And these people lack both the understanding and the common sense to recognize that what they happen to notice (a common metric by which people draw conclusions) is not a statistically accurate sampling of events.

Now, this doesn't mean that some things and some places aren't inherently dangerous. And it doesn't mean that, sometimes, crime (for example) is on the increase. But when someone focuses on the word increase and ignores the fact that several hundred serious crimes perpetrated on tens of millions of riders does not make it dangerous on an individual basis to ride the transit - in the same way that the fact that 1 in 10,000 Americans will become a traffic fatality this year does not make it dangerous to own a car - they're failing to understand the basic concept of danger itself.

Also, let's be honest - some people seem to perversely love living in fear of things. It's weird.

The light rail operators would probably be in a very good position to assess the risk of crime on their trains.

You could stay near Mall of America but do not repeat do not take the light rail or any public transportation as there is an uptick in crime on the light rail.
Is this supposed to be comedy? Guarantee he's statistically far more likely to be involved in a car accident taking an Uber than be attacked by a vigilante on the train.

Stay downtown, i recommend moxy, aloft, luminn...all 3 are nice boutique type hotels that are affordable, like hundred bucks a night. Id stay away from hyatt, millenium, hiltons. All are massive kind of scum hotels. They are kind of older and just made to hold the masses. No charm or character just generic big hotels.

So, I should avoid flights to Akron, right?

The Radison Red is where I stayed on a business trip. I will say it was a cool hotel, very out there with Astronaut mural on the wall and the red tiles in the bathroom making the shape of a deer's head. The hotel though was solid and close to the stadium.
