Hi All,
Considering a move to Minnesota from DC for the schools. I'm 100% telework, so where I live is not important.

My third daughter has intellectual disabilities -- she's in 6th grade... her level is about 2nd grade, but every year she gets passed along and will continue to do so until she graduates without learning anything. She has an extensive IEP, but in a classroom of thirty, she just gets shuffled along. Right now we're still virtual because of covid, and it takes intensive support from me just to get a grasp of the material .. but I'm not an educator.

We've had two educational advocates and both said that Minnesota is the best state for kids with IEPs. Can anyone comment on real world experience with the schools for kids that need extra help? And, what might be the best school district for her in the Twin cities area?

Thanks so much!
Heather

I know someone who works within a district within this field. She asked what setting your daughter is typically placed in so they could better direct to which areas. Said Mpls and St Paul have great sped programs, along with South Washington, and Anoka Hennepin.

My neighbor knows many things on this subject as he’s worked with tons of school districts within the state/metro. If you DM me I can put you in touch with him, he’d gladly help you out.

You may also want to reach out to the Pacer Center to discuss your daughter's IEP and to see if they can recommend a specific school district based on her needs. My son had an advocate from Pacer assigned when he started at a new school and they were very helpful.

Good advice. I'd never heard of the Pacer center, but will check that out now!
