I used to live in the twin cities metro and I actually learned a lot while watching this video.

The skyway system is a nice (especially in the winter....) but I agree with the guy in the video that it can make the downtown feel dead at times.

There is a robust art and theater scene here which I often overlook as a longtime resident. I can provide some examples and this is just off the top of my head:

Theaters:
The Guthrie - 818 S 2nd St
Orpheum Theatre - 910 Hennepin Ave
Mixed Blood Theatre - 1501 S 4th St
Brave New Workshop - 824 Hennepin Ave
Pantages Theatre - 910 Hennepin Ave
State Theatre - 805 Hennepin Ave
In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre - 1500 E Lake St

Art museums:
Walker Art Center - 725 Vineland Pl
Minneapolis Institute of Art - 2400 3rd Ave S
Weisman Art Museum - 333 E River Road
Russian Art Museum - 5500 Stevens Ave S
American Swedish Institute - 2600 Park Ave
Mill City Museum - 704 S 2nd St

So if art and theater is your thing you could plan a pretty full trip with just that on the agenda.

Go in the summer.

Thoughts of crime surges aside, Youtube is full of pros/cons videos of Minneapolis.

This is one of the cons videos, which I find to be accurate, reason #1 in particular.

The perfect summer vacation, start in Seattle, go to Portland next. Then hit Chicago and top it off in the north with Minneapolis. Yeah fun!
