My partner and I are looking to move to the Twin Cities from Grand Rapids, MI in the next 6 - 12 months. We currently own a house, however will be renting once we move there. I'm looking to see where we can get a townhome or large apartment for under $1000.00 per month. I'd like to stay in the city if possible, but away from the crime areas. Any good websites, places, or contacts would greatly be appreciated.

I really don't do much in the way of rentals - but I know a few folks who do. I could send you some names and numbers if you'd like. Otherwise, rent.com is a pretty ubiquitous service.

I thought about Loring Park, but we wanted to be out in the burbs to start off with (either a townhome or large apartment). Once we find a house about 6 - 9 months after we move, we are looking to move to the city (either Minneapolis or St. Paul). We're stay as cheap as possible at least for the townhome/apartment so we can save a bunch of $$ as a down payment for a house. Is there anything that would be around the $600 - $800 range?

I would look into Burnsville and Bloomington. I have several friends there (no really, I have friends) who rent townhomes.

I hesitate to offer a website in the public forum, but rentclicks.com (which I'm NOT affiliated with) has a nice list of rentals.

Hope that helps!

Robert

You might check out Woodbury. We moved from the west coast and rented a great townhome right off Valley Creek Rd. in Woodbury (3 bdr) 1600 sq ft. for around $1,000. I think the name of it was Woodlane Townhomes. It is a decent neighborhood and Woodbury is very nice...and decent commute to the cities. My wife took the bus and had good luck with it too. I think we used rent.com when looking for townhomes.
