Where are some of the best places to find breads such as Sourdough, Pumpernickel Bread, and Rye?

Is there a place that has an unusual kind of bread? Not one easily found in markets?

I've never been there but I've heard great things about Fred's Bread in Eden Prairie. They do retail as well as distribute to a few places around the cities.

I like Breadsmith in Saint Paul. Their selection rotates daily so you may want to call ahead if you are looking for a certain kind.

My oven, located near Dallas, Texas. Dallas is a long ways from Minnesota and I dont sell my bread. I do give it away though.

That aside, consider making your own from scratch sans a bread machine. The smell of yeast activating is good. The smell of baking bread is intoxicating. It is also neat to feel the bread "come alive" as you knead it.

With a little bit of practice, you can bang out the loaves pretty fast (not counting rising times). It is also a good way to weaken the hold of Mc Donalds on our nation. Several neighborhood kids raised on Mickey D's now actually ask me when I am making centeral asian na'an.

Breadsmith by Ridgedale Mall (Minnetonka?) is a good place. Whole Foods in Downtown is a good place. Most places like Cub Foods have fresh bread.
