Thanks for the tips. I will go with the 23 unless I'm traveling at a time when the 53 is running. My partner will be visiting me in October so I will advise him of these routes as well!

You could take the 80 bus from any bus stop along Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. The 80 bus goes directly to Mall of America with very few stops, it's an express.

I'm pretty sure that line was discontinued back in 2004, when the LRT began operating to the airport and MOA.

A lot of the bus routes changed up a couple of years ago. There is still a number 80 bus, but it's a St Paul route now, going between Sun Ray center and Maplewood Mall.

To the OP: don't worry too much about being safe on the buses. Even on the "sketchy" routes like the number 5, you won't see too much besides random drunks and other elements you'd see on any city's public transit system.

The 23 is a fine enough route. I used to live at 39th & Portland and took it a lot. Unless you're waiting for the bus at 3 AM, you shouldn't have a problem.

Well in 2005 I was 12 and stayed at one of my older cousins house in Minneapolis for like 1-2 weeks and went to work with him in the morning. He worked in the mall of america and never had any problem, sometimes he would carry his xbox with him.

I take the 4 every day to work and have never had a problem. It seems more and more people are taking the bus to work everyday as you can save quite a bit of money doing so.
