I used Rottlund back in 1995. I was very happy with them. Lived in that house for ten years. But I hear mixed opinions about them now.

I would venture a guess that any builders still around after the last year would be pretty good, although the best houses are already built. Why continue to build when so many houses are on the market?

No personal experience, but around 10 years ago Pulte homes made repairs to a number of homes in a Woodbury development which were affected by flooding issues from a nearby wetland. It was done voluntarily on their own dime, without any sort of a legal settlement compelling them.

Personally, I'd recommend Southwind Builders. I remember touring some of their homes on the Parade of Homes a few years ago and was impressed with the quality, but other than that I don't have too much experience with or knowledge of the builders around here.

Most of the big builders are not going to build a custom home outside of one of their own developments, especially in your price range. It isn't cost effective for them. You need to start asking around for smaller builders. I have one in mind but I am not sure he builds in Minnetonka. I will check with him and get back to you.
