I never said miniorities where the issue........ The issue is the non english speaking/non american assimilation. I'm not interested in living next to someone flying a mexican flag in their yard. Personal freedom I've got and I'm able to make!!!

fyi, I live on a cul de sac of 5 houses in lakeville. two houses are families of ethopian refugees (multiple generations) and great friends of ours. Another house is Asian immigrants and wonderful kids for my kids to play with. So don't tell me about minorities. On my street I'm the minority and I love our neighborhood. I have no problem with it. My issue is with those coming here uninterested in becoming American and speaking English! That's what I found in Shakopee and I personally didn't like it.

Thank god for America!

as far as school districts go, the schools around here are all good. I think that is the point as well.
We can all hear stories about various districts. None of them are perfect. I have a friend that teachs in 196 and I hear stories from that district as well that would make me think twice about sending my kids there. I have a number of friends that graduated from 196 and they have many stories to tell as well. So it's all in what you hear I guess. So the point is, there are things everywhere that can be issues. 196, 194 it doesn't matter.

As far as the budget cuts in Lakeville goes, I strongly believe it is temporary. There will be another referendum and I'm sure it will pass so the issues will be temporary.

one last thought. It seems awfully insensivtive and stereotypical to suggest that minorities need LOW income housing............
hmmm, And I'm the one with race issues??????

you made that association, not me. Nowhere in that post was it cross referenced.

Default Shakopee

The commute from Shakopee to Bloomington is VERY SHORT. Hwy 169 North to Old Shakoppe Road Exit. The first exit North of the river bridge. You can take Old Shakoppe Road all the way to the MOA. There will be stop lights along the way but it is a nice drive.

The commute from Hastings to the MOA will be a disater. It will take 1 to 1.5hours easy. Rosemount and Farmington will have higher home prices than Shakopee. I live in Scott County where Shakopee is located. There are some really nice affordable homes there. New developments going in all over Southern and Eastern Shakopee and the Western side of Prior Lake.

The drive from Hastings to the MOA is 30 minutes tops, even in rush hour--hop on 55 and it takes you almost to MOA. It is a very easy commute.

I don't think the Fog knows where Hastings is. GolfGal is right on again! The commute would take 30 mins. at the most during rush hour. There is not a single stop light between the 2 cities (Hastings-Bloomington) and no stop and go. This makes it easy to get to the MOM and the airport from Hastings.

Default Hastings

You won't drive that distance in rush hour. Especially with the river crossing and the construction. I drive it twice a week and sometimes it is 30 minutes just from Hastings to 494.

What way do you go? You could drive from Hastings through Rosemount, over to Cedar Ave and up to the MOA in about 35-40 minutes and that is the long way around to the mall. 55 to 52 to 494 would get you to MOA in about 25 minutes tops, 55 to hwy 5 to 494 would be about the same IF you have to stop at the two lights in Eagan.

Smile Shakopee...

Shakopee is a great town to live in, if you can stay away from the casinos. Depending on what type of value your are looking to spend on a home, Hastings and Bloomington have some really nice neighborhoods.

If there is anything I can do to help assist you in the move, please let me know.

Question Think Abouts...

I am a former teacher for the Shakopee District. If you are considering the school district, I would either choose another location or send your children to private school. Without going into detail, the district cannot keep up with the population growth and therefore the children's academic progress suffers. Most of my co-workers, including myself, sent their children to private school.

The city itself is wonderful! If you want to be close to the river bridge, I would look at the Southbridge Edition. It is near schools, shopping, and HWY 169.

Good Luck!
