It is very possible that our family may be relocating from Mass. to MN. I have done research on the school systems there and the Wayzata schools keep coming up. I have an 8 year old who is currently under an IEP program. How are the special ed programs in the Wayzata school system? Does anyone have any other suggestions for other schools with IEP/special ed programs? Thanks for the help!!

Wayzata schools are very good, very large. All schools in MN will have special ed programs so that is not an issue.

Will you be working near Wayzata? The nice thing about the Twin Cities is that there are great schools all over the metro so you won't need to have a long commute. Where is your office and we can help you locate some districts to look into.

My husband will be working DT Minneapolis. It would be nice to not have a long commute but he's willing to make it based on where our son goes to school. We've been looking in the Maple Grove, Plymouth areas.

Wayzata and Plymouth will be easier commutes then Maple Grove. Another top district to look into with pretty easy access to downtown Minneapolis is Mounds View.

I personally would avoid taking 394 downtown in the morning unless you're carpooling. I'm not sure there is any other feasible route coming in from the Wayzata/Plymouth areas. If your husband works downtown during business hours he's guaranteed to be driving in bumper to bumper deadlock on a daily basis taking 394...not fun. I haven't take 94 into downtown from the Maple Grove side for several years so I'm not sure how that looks but it may not be any better.

My husband loves to start very early, what time does the heavy traffic start? Any benefit to leaving for DT on the early side or does everyone try to do that? How is the transit system there?

It varies due to a variety of factors. I was on 394 at around 7:15AM today and eastbound traffic was backed up past HWY 100. I'm not sure what transit options are available coming from that side but it'd definitely be worth checking out if you decide to move there.

Metro Transit - Home would be a good place to look as they handle the bulk of the metro area's public transportation.

You can also buy an express lane pass for 394.
