Current unemployment in Minnesota is 6.6%, in Texas it is 8%.
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/laus.nr0.htm

GDP per capita in Minnesota is $50,396, in Texas it is $45,940.

The notion that Texas is the economic model that all of the US should follow is mostly hype. If you look at various US states and various western countries you find no correlation between having a strong economy, a high standard of living for the people and following a low tax/low services model. Some places that have low taxes, minimal regulation and low quality services have strong economies (Texas), others have poor economies and low standards of living (South Carolina and Mississippi). Also some places with high taxes have strong economies and high standards of living (Germany, Denmark, Minnesota).

Didn't say I was down the state, I was merely responding to an inaccurate posting. Besides, no one answered my question. Oth my job ends here in Quemado shortly, and a new job if I want it is in Duluth. We may stay on in NM instead. The cost of living is far less than the average and the people are more like us. We have many, many friends here.

Yeah, but that isn't really what the current argument is about. Those companies are still in Minnesota just because they have always been here. How many of them actually have their primary manufacturing/operations in Minnesota, rather than just corporate offices? Didn't 3M move a lot of jobs down to Alabama not that long ago?

You also ignore the size of these companies. If you want to use the number of big companies headquartered in the state as a proxy for how good a state's economic model is, you really should look at which F500s we are talking about. Minnesota's biggest (UnitedHealth) did $94 billion in revenue last year. Texas's biggest (Exxon) did $354 billion, and Texas's third-biggest (AT&T) still did $30 billion more than UnitedHealth. To put that more into perspective, all 20 (not 21) of Minnesota's F500s combined for approximately $439 billion in revenue last year. Texas's top two companies rolled in over $539 billion.

Population makes no difference when you are talking percentages and per captia figures.

I posted numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau. You posted some guy's blog. I'll go with my sources.
