Being a 43-year MN native, the biggest surprise I had when moving to Las Vegas is all the homes with fireplaces. And given our bad air quality here, being locked in by mountains, I'm surprised they'd even allow them here. I do enjoy walking around my neighborhood at night, in winter, and smelling the burning wood, but there are those smog alert days, where no one is allowed to use them.

I bought into a 433 unit townhouse complex, and all the older units were built with fireplaces, but I opted for the newest area of the complex with no fireplace.

But after spending 15 winters here, and realizing now how chilly our winters can be (sometimes feeling colder than being back in MN when the wind howls thru the valley) I see it better now, the fireplaces!

Fireplaces in Las Vegas - that's odd. Does Nevada even have trees?
