It has to have a roof, if public funds are used.

We have to be able to use it year around.
Like the commercial says. it's Minnesota's recreation room.

If private funds are used they can build a open air stadium, but that is not the best idea by far.

The Vikings will be using the stadium only what, 8 days/year. The metrodome currently is booked over 300 days/year for activities that can't take place "outside". It would be silly not to put a roof on the stadium and lose the revenue all these other activities bring in.

Coo-coo! Coo-coo!

Minnesota Vikings stadium drive takes step backward as GOP floats idea of roofless building - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/minnesota-vikings-stadium-drive-takes-step-backward-as-gop-floats-idea-of-roofless-building/2012/05/01/gIQADLMhuT_story.html - broken link)

Given the Metrodome has probably several decades of life left, has anyone thought of the idea of building an open air stadium as cheap as possible in Arden Hills or wherever, and keeping the Metrodome for the other 300 events? Given their track record in another 15 years the Vikings will be whining for another new stadium and maybe we could replace the Metrodome then. Or would the cost of maintaining two stadiums over say 30 years until the next Vikings stadium gets built make this a bad idea?

I would really love to see the Vikings move to LA, especially if they brought their fans with them.

For the 100th time, the Metrodome cannot sustain itself on these alleged 300 other events; they generate no revenue. They made that point years ago. The Dome needs at least one major tenant.

I'm not you. If there is a way to prevent games from being cancelled, I'm all for it.

thankfully you didn't get a say in the matter, having a couple of games per year cancelled more than makes up for abandoning the Chicago Ave crap hole that was left behind or that the poor saps in Milwaukee (or Atlanta) have to suffer with for the next 30 years...

You're thankful, but I'm not. I think differently. If I had a say, I would have every stadium included with a retractable roof.
