I have kind of an off the wall idea as far as tailgaiting goes. What if a parking garage were built that would be attached to the new stadium. Maybe the parking garage could allow tailgaiting on the rood of the building. There could possibly be a view of the field from the top of the parking garage. People could rent spaces on the roof for the game to have a view of the game and a place to do the tailgaiting. It would also solve some of the parking issues that would involve the stadium and that area of Minneapolis in general.

The plans we saw already call for there to be an attached parking garage, but there doesn't seem to be enough space to get it directly adjacent to the stadium. Instead, it's across the street connected by a skyway.

I think the plan called for roof-top tailgating, didn't it?

That would still work for tailgaiting on the roof of the parking garage. They could tailgate, then walk across the skyway to go to the game.

I'm sure that's possible. What I really meant was that it likely isn't possible that you'd be able to watch the game from the top of the roof as it would be across the street...plus the plan currently calls for a fixed roof.

tailgating in a Minneapolis Ramp isn't likely to happen and you for sure you won't be grilling any Johnsonville Brats as Minneapolis bans open flames in parking ramps. In fact, I doubt you could find a parking ramp anywhere in the country where tailgating/grilling would be permitted in a parking ramp. The A-B-C Ramps next to Target Field would provide just the scenario you alluded to except for the fact it isn't allowed.

Parking Ramp Attorneys and Building Fire Code Authorities are funny that way.

Surface lots however are an entirely different matter.

In a ramp is quite different then on the roof of a ramp though.

not to lawyers and City of Mpls officials and I guarantee they don't allow tailgating on the upper decks of the A-B-C Ramps next to Target Field, so save the trouble and don't drag your Weber down there.

With proper materials (think of the rubber caulking in the expansion joints and surface sealants they use), and appropriate fire suppression equipment available on the roof, I'm sure rooftop tailgating could work to the satisfaction of fire officials and insurance companies. It might even take a ramp design that a fire truck could drive through and reach the top quickly.

As it is now, if you just bust out the Weber on top of any old parking garage, you'll definitely be "asked," Minnesota Nice style, to put it away.

the closest thing I can find resembling a parking ramp facility in the country that allowed tailgating (grills) is the Waldron Deck in Chicago near Buckingham Fountain. This is a two story facility in which the upper deck appears to be slightly elevated and would likely allow for access by an FD truck.

there will be additional costs associated with fire suppression in a cold weather climate that frequently makes the installation cost prohibitive and typically not required by building code.
