Mall of America, the nation's largest shopping mall anchored by Macy's, H&M and others, has taken a stand against the growing trend of Thanksgiving shopping and will be closed on the turkey feast this year.

The center, based in Bloomington, Minnesota, has been open on Thanksgiving since 2012. But mall officials told The Associated Press it wants to offer workers time with their families.

Whatever. I use to work retail and plenty of people will still have to work, especially at the big anchor stores to get everything prepped. Also with the mall opening at 5 AM, workers will have to come in very early, if not being there overnight to begin with.

I think it's great.

Sure, some people will still have to work anyway, but not as many as if the sale was going on during the holiday.

Plus having the sale on the holiday disrupts the Thanksgiving celebration of many other families. My mom gets so upset that she has to serve Thanksgiving dinner about 11 am, because some of her kids and grandchildren want to eat and run off to the sales. And last year one of her daughter-in-laws skipped Thanksgiving altogether. Those sales are really destroying the holiday for a lot of families.

Totally agree. There are definitely more important things in life than shopping.

It's amazing the excuses people use NOT to be somewhere they don't want to be.
