Yessir, I've always been a fan of edible pasties.

Wild rice and Lefse. Had some of the other stuff visiting Scandinavia. Interesting about lefse. The Swedes had no idea what it was. It was intirely Norwegian.

Curious about the title of the thread. While the Twin Cities, in particular, have large Vietnamese, Hmong, and Somali populations, I hardly think most people (even from within these populations) would catagorize their foods as "Minnesotan", at least not in a traditional sense. Everything else listed is a specific food, but these are added as categories. The others foods listed tend to have a much longer history within the state. Just wondering why it was felt the last three categories needed to be included?

roneb, probably the OP is not a native minnesotan. Actually, I hadn't heard of some of the foods in that list but I'm from the Iron Range and didn't even see a lima bean until I moved to Chicago.

I think more people have probably tried Sarma than know it. Sarma is just stuffed cabbage rolls.
With all the people from the range responding, I can't believe I'm the only one that's had potica though.
Can someone clue me in to what Juicy Lucy is?

A juicy lucy is a nice juicy hamburger made with melted cheese in the middle.

More or less.

I don't know if it's two patties joined together or just one big patty stuffed with cheese, but the ones I've had at various places are usually 1/2 pound of ground beef... Stark's Saloon in Eagan used to make really good ones.

Well, cripe, why not just say "cabbage rolls" then.

And potica is still big on the range, very big, especially at Christmas time. My mother developed Altzheimer's and no longer spoke. I went up there and bought a roll at the Bakery. Showed it to her, saying "what's this?" POTICA!!! she said.

"Porketta", now that's something you don't commonly see much of. It's labor intensive requiring a bonafide butcher to season it, and they just don't take the time in big box stores.

Never heard of "juicy Lucy".

Thank you. The only thing I could imagine was a drink of some kind but, that didn't make sense since everything else on the list was food.
