as a black man, can i ask who cares. mississippi is no more racist than any other state. its probably one of the states as most southern states where the whites are culturally more closer to black than in any region. i would go as far to say mississippi along with louisiana whites have more black influences than any other whites in america if that make sense. im pretty sure some blacks feel the same way. not all blacks wanna mix with whites. mixing will go on and its going on in mississippi as we speak. people must remember mississippi is the blackest state in the usa, it will probably have a black majority in the future. so who really cares? i would say blacks are probably the least favorable group for other ethnic groups to mix with. thats cool, i mean we have been at the bottom of the pyramid since the beginning and the global view on blacks is not good. this same whites probably have black friends. im from virginia and know whites that are bigots and have black friends and blacks that are pro-black and have white friends. its not a black and white as they make it. hate the race love the individual seems to be the norm.

Moderator cut: raciist remarks removed (that you had quoted)

How about these as stipulations: Either the couple get sterilized, or they both move to Africa and renounce US citizenship.[/quote]Fascinating post by someone who obviously skipped a few history classes. There is no such thing as a pure "white race". And if there was such a thing what would it consist of? Would it be based on a German heritage? Scandinavian? English? Please don't say English because the island of Great Britain and the population based there has been settled, conquered, re-settled, and merged with others so many times that no one knows who is who. It's why "English" (the language) is so hard to learn properly; English words have roots in many different other languages from previous conquerors (Spanish, French, German, Latin, etc.).

Going back several hundred years, the Italians (Romans) were considered the cultural upper class and the "white" people (German tribes, including most of northern Europe, plus Scandinavian Vikings) were the savage barbarians, the uncultured and uneducated wild people.

In the not-so-distant past here in the USA various peoples have been considered "non-white" and therefore of a lower class, including Italians, Spaniards, Irish, etc.

Races have intermingled throughout history, and will continue to do so.

As stated earlier, a couple in love faces enough problems. Let them get married and leave them alone.

One day in the future, when a polyglot and multiethnic United States finally catches up to the rest of the first world as far as societal, financial and cultural education (which it will invariably have to do if it wishes to compete favorably in the world trade and knowledge exchange arena, which it is NOT doing now) people who think like this, both white and black, will be seen as an anachronism and a quaint, humorously pathetic curiosity.

You are suggesting that someday we (with a AAA S&P rating) will be as "financially educated" as, say, China with a AA- S&P rating or maybe Japan with a AA- S&P rating? I hope not, since the U.S. economy is at 16 trillion and both the afore mentioned countries are at about 4 trillion.

And you are suggesting that somehow the Chinese, who regulate the number of children each family may produce, have some sort of 'societal' superiority? And did they express this superiority well when they ran over the demonstrators in Tienanmen Square?

And do you think the Chinese expressed a certain 'cultural educational' superiority when they allowed 156 Muslim Uighur people to be killed in riots last year?

And if you are a white man do you think you would fare is well in a mixed marriage in Uganda as you would in Mississippi?.......Wait, I'll go ask my black neighbor and her white husband. They may have some thoughts on the subject.............

Wait...

I'm back. They wouldn't stop laughing.

Without the federal tax dollars and technological, medical and finance centers of states like California, New York and Florida, states like Mississippi would be third world countries. It's you who benefits from this union, not us.

Mississippi might be poor, but it isn't in the same shape as California.

I'm pretty sure when Democrats say "freedom" they do it to garner votes (with no changes, the proverbial dangling carrot), nothing changed from the Clinton-Bush years to the Bush-Obama years.

Desert kid, you are one cool cat. I hope you will revisit Mississippi some time. Given your interest in civil war history, you saw the right areas in Natchez and Vicksburg.

Youch. Sounds like a certain expat has spent WAY too much time reading the British publication The Guardian during his/her time abroad. Come back when your brain has distilled all that anti-American vitriol and you have a more realistic perception of the continent in which you're currently living, which I presume to be Europe.
