I just learned that Kings Tavern in Natchez closed it's doors a couple of years ago because of the poor economy. Does anyone know if this building, built in 1769, has been designated as an historical landmark? Does anyone know if it is under new ownership?

I have a keen interest in 17th and 18th century buildings and would appreciate any information regarding the current status of Kings Tavern. I just read that the property is not offered for sale and couldn't find out who, if anyone is still living there.

The way I find out things like that is to call the Chamber of Commerce. I have been using them all over the US for many years and have never once been disappointed in the information they give out. Usually, their offices are filled with people with personal knowledge, and a keen interest in such things.

Also: Since you are seriously considering a move to Mississippi, you may want to check out the Discovery Channel series, "Buying The Bayou". They feature properties in Mississippi as well as Louisiana, and some of those properties are in the Natchez area.

Thank you for the tip about Buying the Bayou! Yes. I am going to call the Chamber of Commerce in Natchez. Thank you again. What a fascinating house/tavern that is.

We've eaten at Kings Tavern restaurant a number of times, but when we were there in October 2013, it was closed and the restaurant out of business.

I heard that a couple from California bought it in 2013!

In the 1930s, when masons were repairing the old fireplace, the remains of three people were found. Apparently, they'd been murdered, then walled up in the fireplace.

I believe it's on the National Register of Historic Places.

Thank you for your input.
