Need some suggestions for nice areas to move within mississippi. Coming from Ohio. Don't want to be to far from MSU so I can catch some sporting events. Any suggestions?

I would say to live in Starkville. It is really coming along in recent years. A lot of jobs in the GTR area.

Tupelo area is OK too if you want a little bit bigger.

Then there is always the Jackson Metro and Memphis Metro within 3 hours either way.

I moved to Hernando from W.Va. in 1973. Been very well pleased although the population has increased a lot as well as crime although we do not have a big crime problem.....yet...

Those are good suggestions, Starkville is pleasant and growing...and Tupelo is a nice town. Columbus is another option, particularly if you like historic homes or conversely if you like newer homes on steep wooded ridges. For something larger, Flowood and Brandon (Jackson suburbs) are just two hours down Hwy 25.

If you don't want to be far from MSU, Starkville is your only choice. The housing market is a little over price now, but still increasing in value.

I think Starkville would be a good option for your needs. As other posters mentioned, Brandon on the rez side and Flowood are great communites. The important thing is to make sure you visit the areas that you are interested in. It will probably be a culture shock, but not in a bad way. Make sure that if you do happen to move here that you both have employment here before the move. Good luck to you!

How much do you want to spend? Will you be looking for a job? Do you have school age children?

I don't know what the school year is in Ohio, but we moved to the mid-south from NYC - and I had lived in NJ and RI - all northeast states. I was caught in a school zone in early August "speeding" because I had not slowed to the school in session speed limit. My response when pulled over: But it's still summer, there's no school for another month! Despite looking at my NY license, the officer didn't believe I didn't know it was the first week of school.

So if you planning on registering your children for school, keep that in mind. School begins the first week in August and lets out the first week in May. Still freaks me out and it's now 5 years.

I'm 50 and grew up in the 'Sip, I think it was almost Labor Day prior to us starting the school year. They must have more holidays in the school year now, thus the need to start back early?
