Hello, Mississippi.

I don't post on this board a lot, but I have a Mississippi-related question and hopefully someone out there can take pity on this Northerner and help me out.

I'm going to be driving back to my home state, New Jersey, in early January, after about a week in southeastern Louisiana, and I want to take some extra time to explore a few points in Mississippi, a state I have not been to and will just be straight driving through on the way down. I want to see Natchez and Oxford, specifically. Can anyone recommend great sites/attractions/restaurants in these two areas, or throw out any other recommendations you might have?

You picked two good places. Natchez is loaded with beautiful homes in and around the city. It also has the river view and a charming downtown. Neighboring Vicksburg has the historic civil war military park and river views from the welcome center and on Fort Hill. Oxford has the Ole Miss campus, the home of William Faulker, and the historic downtown area.

In Oxford:

Go to William Faulkner's house Rowan Oak. Then go down the street to the Square and grab some drinks/dinner at City Grocery. Enjoy.

Thank you both very much!

That looks like an excellent menu. The grits/shrimp combo has my mouth watering already, and a good beer selection.

Originally these stops in Mississippi were just going to be small afterthoughts on my road trip, but the more I see/hear about these areas, the more I am getting excited about the Mississippi portion of my trip.
