My wife and I have been looking at Nevada as a place to retire when she reaches retirement age in a year. I have already retired. We presently reside in Oklahoma City although i am from STL but we are now looking favorably at towns like Nevada or Lamar as ia place to retire and we intend to puchase an older home in one of them.
What does concern us is the seemingly high crime index in the city of Nevada when compared to other SW Missouri cities with similar demographics. Can anyone from that area shed some light on the possible reasons for the twice than national average figures?
We just are clueless about what the reasons could be.

Most of the crimes here are drug crimes. We have had one murder in the last seven years. I think the last armed robbery was 3 or 4 years ago. One of the reason crime rates seem higher here is that more are caught. The sheriff's dept. here has a great record at catching criminals.
