However, up to this point, one of the only systems of government that the legislature couldn’t manipulate was the citizen ballot initiative process. This allows Missouri voters to bypass the General Assembly and governor entirely, should the need arise. Most states have a similar process, but Missouri’s is uniquely necessary.

Tony Messenger, a renowned columnist for The St. Louis Post-Dispatch likened the Missouri and Georgia bills to “taking a blowtorch to democracy.”

Stand up and find what your Rep is doing.

Salus populi suprema lex esto? Oh really?

I have often said that Missouri, my home state, has lost the capacity for self government. It mostly seems governed by fear, which is manufactured daily, like fresh bread, out of the ovens of the state legislature, politicians, and extremists who have gained the public eye. Now comes the legislature, weary from their labors of manipulating and pandering to the voters, with a plan to lighten their load by restricting any effort to rein in or correct their folly. The pesky citizens need to be kept under control. To be silent is to affirm the legislature's plan. The H.L. Mencken quote comes to miind: "A good politician is quite as unthinkable as an honest burglar." They are in your house.

It will never happen, but Missouri would be much better off with a General Assembly that meets on a biennial schedule, as in the olden days of my youth. They would have to actually focus on their jobs rather than meddling and manipulating the voters' fear levels and passing pointless legislation to remedy problems that they invented just for that purpose.

Don't know about your Representative but most of the ones in Missouri are doing fine. You would do much better if you threw away the St Louis Post-Dispatch and read some real news. Anyone who thinks there is something wrong with insuring the integrity of elections is simply promoting fraud.
