I'm a lifetime Boise, Idaho resident who is looking for a place to retire. Boise is one of the fastest growing places in the country and has grown so much and in such a chaotic, hyper-expensive way that Boise is almost unlivable.

My wife and I miss Boise of 40 years ago where the town was quite scruffy (downtown Boise looked like World War Two Berlin) but was a town where regular folks could buy a home and live a decent life for typical local wages.

Also, my retirement gig is building hand-made furniture and the local availability of hardwood in Missouri is attractive.

Further, the close proximity to Kansas City and all the amenities in that city is equally attractive.

Any St. Joseph retirees with local wisdom on this forum? How about other relocated folks to Missouri?

Any wisdom to share would be appreciated.

I am hoping others will chime in, as I have only been to St Joseph a dozen or so times, and never lived there. NW Missouri is known for more extreme weather. St. Joseph is a slow / no growth city at this time (you can determine if that is good or bad for what you like). It is a city with some old bones and a lot of history around the Pony Express and such (I never visited any of the museums). I did hang out downtown with some friends at local watering holes and everyone seemed friendly. I have had some good times there. Along the Missouri, this city has a some varying topography, but there are NO mountains anywhere around, and I am not sure about any outdoor recreation (if that matters to you). There's a casino if gambling is your thing, and I think I enjoyed their Sunday Brunch once of twice.

I really have not been there in 5-7 years so Covid could have really changed things. Just a little experience in the event you don't get many takers.
