[color="DarkSlateBlue"]Picture this: Spectators in bleachers tensely watch as points are posted on a scoreboard, cheerleaders wave pompoms and young athletes sweat out a close contest.

A typical high school game or match? Well, not quite.

Someday, this scene may take place at a Missouri reservoir — as part of a high-school bass fishing tournament.

Don’t laugh.

Once you get over the unlikely prospect of a student lettering in bass fishing or getting a scholarship to fish for some Division I school, consider this: Bass fishing already has become a recognized high school activity in Illinois. And a group of fishermen in the bass-rich Ozarks are pushing for the sport to gain the same status in Missouri.

You know it would be fine if there was one or two tournaments on each Lake in a given season. But any more every Lake has a different tournament every weekend, tying up the Ramps, and tearing up the water making time from one hole to another.

Don't give much hope for the average Guy wanting to enjoy a day of fishing.Just my .02

Can see that this would be cool, get the kids outdoors, expose some that might be interested along w/ those that really are to such an activity. Wonder tho' with budget cuts and school's financials hurting if such could get much momentum in this environment... and also considering liability, what w/ kids and motors and boats and sharp objects [hooks, fillet knife] and water. Also, and more importantly, where do the cheerleaders cheer from, the shore? What would the cheerleaders wear?

If that was an issue, I suppose the students could get together on their own and get sponsorship from some if the businesses in the area.

As little as possible

We have a tournament every year here on the Delta called the Pro-Teen, Fisherman donate thier time and take a teenager fishing in a tournament, The Fisherman doesn't have an entry fee and the kids fish for donated prizes and trophys.. Afterward there is a free BBQ for Fisherman, kids and thier familys. The kids have to have caught 3 of your 5 fish limit, so you are really trying to get the kids on fish....Fun event..
as far as liability, they and thier parents sign a permission and release of liability form, and all boaters have to have at least 100K of liability insurnace...
