wish I could give you an unbiased opinion, but I cant, I am a native St Louisan, my family basically came down the river with Chouteau in 1699, so I am a little bit in favor of the Lou. Its the place I wanna be!

I will bite on a few, based off the time I spent in both

monuments? - Arch no brainer
airports? - in KC you nearly have to drive an hour out of the city to get there
job opportunities? - has much more large companies stationed in St. Louis
better colleges? public? private? - St. Louis has a top 10 college
better zoo? - Uh yeah 2nd or 3rd in the nation in STL
traffic? right now i would say KC, but in 5 months I will say STL, but they are marginal and really not a problem.
Museums are also St. Louis, I would say the Aeronautical museum in Wichita is cool, but i think that is not KC, the Children's Museum is amazing here.
Families, yeah ST. Louis is called a great place to raise a family, Singles Forbes rated STL 20th and KC 36Th, but neither I think are that great

KC has got crime is better, they have less people
affordable housing, usually KC is cheaper
BBQ - KC - But they have nothing on Memphis, and if you said all food I would say St. Louis, with Italian, they are second only too NYC
Hotter Babes - KC gets that one also, sorry STL ladies, but I think it has to do with the corn fed Kansas girls that get that one.
Integration - I think KC wins that one, somewhere I read that STL is the most segregated city in the US behind one.

I currently live in St Louis so I know a lot more about it, but I spent a ton of time in KC, I grew up directly in the middle. Both great cities, I'll give it a shot:
Traffic-St Louis traffic is actually not that bad, except 270. We do have the metrolink, I ride that to work to avoid traffic.
Most affordable housing-I assume its probably about the same. STL: You can get a nice house in the city or burbs for under $200,000. By nice I mean: 2000 square feet, two bedroom, two bath, yard, etc.
better zoo-STL hands down.
theme parks-STL has Six Flags, much better than KC's Worlds of Fun: I have been to both several times. I've actually been to Worlds of Fun more.
better colleges-I would have to say STL because of Washington University (One of the best in the country) we also have Saint Louis University, UMSL (only optometry program in the state), Webster University, Fontbonne, Lindenwood, Maryville University
better next door state- Sorry Kansas, STL wins this one. I would have to say IL, they have Chicago which makes an awesome weekend trip.
better for families-Probably about the same
more conservative? liberal? moderate?-Probably about the same. STL city is very much democratic/liberal, suburbs are more conservative.
least natural disasters-same
hotter babes -dont have a clue
geography-STL has the confluence (meeting of Mississippi and Missouri Rivers)
nice parks close by-STL for sure, Forest Park is one of the best in the country. There are several more throughout the city (Tower Grove, Carondolet, Heman, and so on) We also have huge beautiful parks in the burbs or right outside of town (Castlewood, Babler, ect)
better river areas-STL for sure
job opportunities-STL has more Fortune 500 companies, however KC is experiencing some growth
future prospects-Both cities are experiencing growth in the metropolitan areas and both have put a ton of money into revitilizing the downtown areas. The population of STL downtown is around 11,000 right now, I believe KC is closer to 16,000.
shopping? districts? malls?-KC has the plaza which is unique. STL has plenty of unique shopping in The Loop and Central West End. Both have several malls
museums? galleries?-STL has Modern Art Museum, Art History Museum, City Museum, Grand Center and a ton of small galleries scattered throughout the city (2 in my small neighborhood alone) They are renovating an old building on the riverfront to be a huge Art Center.
KC has a ton of art, someone from there will have to name all the places.
friendliness-I have heard KC is more friendly, I havent noticed any difference
casinos-The new Luminere Place downtown STL is pretty awesome and has a Four Seasons hotel attached. There are two casinos downtown (including above). Casino Queen is right across the river on the East Side, there are two casinos in St Charles (Harrahs and Ameristar)
BBQ-KC for sure
Integration-The city of St Louis is very integrated, the suburbs are more segregated.
crime-STL is worse in crime, but a bigger city than KC
airports-STL airport is centrally located and is on the metrolink line. KC's pretty far out and kind of a pain
monuments-STL:The Arch (never gets old), Budweiser Brewery, Busch Stadium, The Zoo, The Muny, The Fox, Jewel Box, Missouri Botanical Gardens. Not sure about KC, need someone from there to say.
bookstores-Several in STL, couldnt tell you about KC but I am sure they also have plenty
renaissance faire-KC has a big one, STL has one as well but I have never been
libraries-Both have libraries scattered throughout the city, there is one within walking distance to me.

Arch is ok, but keeps the rest of the skyline down. Overall Skyline: KC by a mile. Monumentally speaking, the arch is better than anything in KC, I guess. I do love the Liberty Memorial in KC, though.

The Kansas City airport is only 15 minutes from downtown..... about the same as St. Louis. It's also one of the fastest growing areas of the metro. Admittedly, it's not the most centrally located, but on the other hand, we don't have to listen to airplanes right above our heads all hours of the day.
Quote:
job opportunities? - has much more large companies stationed in St. Louis
KC has had greater and more steady growth than St. Louis over the years. The economy is very diverse, and usually isn't affected much by recessions. A little, but not much.
Quote:

No problem there.
Quote:

I agree, St. Louis zoo is better.
KC's isn't nearly as bad as people try to make it out to be, though. They've done a lot of improvements to it in recent years. Also, KC is just down the road from Omaha... another zoo that's usually in everyone's top five.

Don't know much about traffic in St. Louis, since I'm usually there on weekends when I visit. Kansas City has traffic? Didn't know that. I drive from a suburb to downtown every day, and rarely go below 55-65.

The Nelson-Atkins in KC is considered to be one of the better art museums in the country. The new addition only solidified that. Also, the WW1 museum is the only one of it's kind in the country. It gets rave reviews from press all over. We also have the Truman Presidential Library in Independence.

True. Both aren't the best for singles. Both are very family-oriented. Some of KC's suburbs are consistently ranked the best places to raise a family in the U.S. Various suburban school districts are also nationally ranked.
Quote:
KC has got crime is better, they have less people
Better, but not much. KC proper is quite a bit bigger than St. Louis proper. St. Louis' metro is 2.8 million versus KC's 2.0 million. Not a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. Population really doesn't matter in terms of crime, though. Little Rock is a fraction of the size of either town, yet every bit as dangerous and crime-ridden.

affordable housing, usually KC is cheaper
KC is generally one of the most affordable metro's in the country. I wouldn't have any other way.

I love Memphis BBQ, though I'm not really a BBQ expert. KC's is good, too. LC's is my favorite joint in Kansas City.

Agreed.

Integration - I think KC wins that one, somewhere I read that STL is the most segregated city in the US behind one.
Unfortunately, KC is very bad with integration as well.
