How much does a round bale go for? Are there different size round bales, or are they all the same? What is the most economical kind of hay to grow (needs less fertilizer, withstands drought, sells for a good price)? What is the most marketable type of hay? We have land in Wright County, with a 30 acre hayfield. How much hay does a typical acre produce (given normal rain fall)? How many cuttings? How does sharecropping work? Also, how much does pasture rent go for? Is it by the month or year? Thanks.

Default transitioning from alfalfa to Bermuda

Good news...I decided to go ahead and make the transition from alfalfa hay to alfalfa/bermuda pellets along with feeding both my rescue horses a couple of slivers of Bermuda per day.

My quarter is definitely more energetic with the change which kind of surprised me. He isn't really fond of the alfalfa pellets and tends to push them out of his feeder in order to get to the one scoop of triple crown senior I am feeding him purely for the minerals and supplements it contains. I payed $16.99 per bale for 100# bales of Bermuda on Monday.

We'll see how he does over the next week or so but all seems well so far.

Carol
